I am primarily interested in better comprehending the transcriptional regulation of secondary cell wall biosynthesis in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. My goal is to identify key transcription factors that can be targeted for decreasing cell wall recalcitrance. My research will provide a fundamental understanding of the transcriptional control behind cell wall construction, which future studies can utilize when modifying regulatory points in cell wall biosynthesis to create plants tailored for biofuel production. Therefore, an understanding of transcriptional regulatory elements in the model system Arabidopsis thaliana can be directly applied to homologous transcription factors found in dedicated biofuel feedstock crops.
