Spring 2001 Calendar

April 18, 2001

Jonathan Hulvey, an undergraduate in Dr. David Porter's lab, will present his ATBI Chytrid Project from the Great Smoky Mountains.

March 30 - April 1, 2001
MASMC - Middle Atlantic States Mycology Conference

The annual Middle Atlantic States Mycology Conference (MASMC) will be held here in Athens at the University of Georgia from March 30th to April 1st. Two PEET workshops will be presented for Chytrid PEETsters and any other interested parties on Friday March 30th to be followed by a reception at Dr. David Porter's house. Presentations and posters covering a whole spectrum of mycological topics will be given on Saturday, March 31st followed by a not-to-be-missed low-country boil dinner provided by the local Cajun hotspot, Gautreau's. A post-dinner talk entitled "Dispersal of Chytrids: Land, Water and Air" will be given by keynote speaker, Dr. Martha Powell, department head of the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. On April 1st, there will be a fool's foray for morels in the State Botanical Gardens. Participants will be provided with lunch on both Saturday and Sunday. Dr. Henry Ngugi will present "Infection strategies of Colletotrichum sublineolum on sorhgum."
Dr. Ngugi is a visiting scientist in the Plant Pathology Dept.

MDG will have a "Love Fest." This is sure to be a fun event. Participants are asked to prepare a brief 5min. presentation on their favorite fungus and bring a small show-and-tell item. Some snacks will be provided. If you would like to bring something, please see the MDG president, Karen Snyder
