Spring 2002 Calendar

END OF THE YEAR WRAP UP PARTY

Join us as we celebrate the end of another great fungal year! Come say goodbye to those who are leaving and wish everyone a great summer!

We will also announce the election of our new President for the 2002-2003 school year: Xiaorong Lin, a Ph.D. student in Dr. Michelle Momany's lab (Plant Biology)

The party will be a potluck so everyone should bring their favorite lunch dish. Let Sharon know what you're bringing ahead of time so that we'll have a good assortment of food.

All with an interest in fungi are invited!

"Physiology, enzyme production, and zoospore activity of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, a chytrid pathogenic to amphibians"

Jeff Piotrowski, Masters student from the Department of Biology, University of Maine, Orono, ME will present his research on the physiology of the fungal frog pathogen, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis.

Gail Celio, Ph.D. student in Plant Pathology will present her research on powdery mildew on Poinsetta.

"Unexpected Fungal Biodiversity"

Dr. David Porter, UGA Plant Biology will talk about the newly discovered habitats for fungi, all the new undescribed taxa present in those habitats, and their impact on the view of fungal biodiversity.

"Agrobacterium Transformation of Filamentous Fungi"

Dr. Sarah Covert, UGA Forestry will present her research on the transformation of filamentous fungi using the bacterium, Agrobacterium.

"Meiotic Mayhem and the Story of BUF1: A New Paradigm of Meiosis Emerges"

Dr. Tony Glenn will lead a discussion on the following paper by M.L. Farman: Meiotic deletion at the BUF1 locus of the fungus Mangnaporthe grisea is controlled by interaction with the homologous chromosome. Genetics 160:137-148. 2002.
