Botanical Illustration

Objectives of course: •learn the basics of botanical illustration •become more aware of plants and their underlying structure •study the morphology of flowering plants in the context of producing scientifically accurate representations. •have hands-on laboratory experience with live material •achieve facility in dissecting and analyzing floral structure •have familiarity with botanical terminology/descriptions •acquire facility for interpreting illustrations in appropriate references

Principal Course Assignments:

Completion of a lab notebook with 14 assignments.

Specific Course Requirements for Grading:

Grade based on: •4 Quizzes on terminology (25 pts. each -- 100 •FINAL (critique of published drawings and general terminology) -- 50 •⅓ notebook -- 50 •⅓ notebook -- 50 •Final notebook (incl. additions to first part of semester)--50 Attendance will also be taken into account.

Attendance Policy:

Students need to attend each lecture/lab session. The course is a lab course and a lot of material is covered in each session.
