![]() Dr. Susan Wessler |
Principal
Investigator - Dr. Wessler is a distinguished research professor and
has been recently named a regents professor by the University System of
Georgia Board of Regents. She began her career at UGA in 1983. email: suew@plantbio.uga.edu |
![]() Dr. Guojun Yang |
Post doc - Dr. Yang received his
Ph. D. from Texas A&M University. He is currently focusing on
the mobilization of miniature inverted repeat transposable elements
(MITEs) and their possible cross-mobilization by other types of
autonomous TEs. email: gyang@plantbio.uga.edu |

![]() Dr. C Nathan Hancock |
Post Doc - Dr. C Nathan Hancock
received his Ph. D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Nathan studies the Ping/Pong and Mariner transposon
proteins. He focuses on the biochemical interaction
between these transposases and the MITEs they mobiize. email: cnhancock@plantbio.uga.edu |
|
![]() Dr. Feng Zhang |
Post Doc- Dr. Zhang received his
Ph. D. from Iowa State University in Plant Genetics. His current
project will focus on origin, evolution and amplification of
transposable elements in plants. Dr. Zhang's doctoral studies
involved tissue-specific gene regulation and regulatory region
evolution using natural variations of red corn. email: fzhang@plantbio.uga.edu |
|
![]() Ken Naito |
Graduate Student - Ken visited
the Wessler lab as a graduate student from Japan. He
studies the amplification of miniature inverted repeat transposable
elements (MITEs) in rice. Ken has returned to Japan, but he is
still corresponding with the
lab in further studies. email: knaito@plantbio.uga.edu |
|
![]() Eleanor Kuntz |
Graduate Student - Eleanor
completed her undergraduate work at Smith college, graduating with a
degree in biology. Eleanor's research currently focuses on using
red rice to investigate transposon diversity and amplification status
within natural populations. email: ekuntz@uga.edu |
|
![]() Eunyoung Cho |
Graduate Student - Eunyoung Cho
majored in Biology at Seoul National University in Korea. She
went on to receive a Master's degree in plant systematics at Seoul
National University. Currently, she is studying the amplification
of miniature inverted repeat transposable elements (MITEs) in rice. email: echo@plantbio.uga.edu |
|
Dawn Holligan |
Graduate Student - Dawn Holligan
did her undergraduate work at the University of Georgia.
Currently, she is working on combining wet lab experiments and
bioinformatics to study the evolution and impact of transposable
elements in select plant genomes. email: dawn@plantbio.uga.edu |
|
![]() Yujun Han |
Graduate Student -Yujun got his
B.S. degree from NanKai University in China. Before coming to
UGA, he had worked for three years on genomic sequence analysis, when
he developed a novel algorithm for detecting active TEs. Now he is
combing both bioinformatical and biological techniques to find active
transposable elements. email: yhan@plantbio.uga.edu |
|
![]() Tianle Chen |
Graduate Student - Tianle
received her B.S. degree from Fudan University in Shanghai, China. She
is currently focusing on the methylation status of MITEs and their
possible effects on the flanking regions of the insertion sites. email: tchen@plantbio.uga.edu |
|
![]() Deep Shah |
Undergraduate Researcher - Deep
Shah is starting his third year at UGA. He is studying in Washington
D.C. this semster, but will return to his studies on medicago
transposable elements come spring. email: djshah@uga.edu |
