Research Interests:
My research interests are in plant evolutionary
ecology and ecophysiology on granite outcrops of the southeastern United
States. More specifically, I am focusing on phenotypic plasiticity and
selection of ecophysiological traits in response to drought. Granite
outcrops are desert-like habitats occurring in the Piedmont forest of the
southeast and typically are more susceptible to drought in summer. I am
studying Helianthus
porteri, which
is the most dominant species reproducing during late summer (hottest and
driest part of the year). I am also interested in comparing the ecophysiology,
phenology and demography of H. porteri and other outcrop species growing in the same
habitat throughout the growing season.
