Dr. Dawe received a Ph.D. in Michael Freeling's lab at U.C Berkeley
and post-doctoral training in the laboratories of Zacheus Cande
(U.C. Berkeley) and John Sedat (U.C. San Francisco). This training
provided a background in maize genetics and cell biology, as well
as three-dimensional light microscopy. At Georgia, this expertise
has been directed towards the study of plant chromosome segregation.
Our general approach to training others is to help people find unique
projects, and to maintain a balance of age levels and expertise
at the bench. We currently have an active group of graduate students,
undergraduates, and technicians.
Kelly's spouse Marguerite (Peggy) Brickman is an Associate Professor
in Plant Biology where she emphasizes teaching biology to non-science
majors.
