The two main projects in the lab revolve around two groups of genes
providing key functions in the patterning process. These genes were initially found in a large-scale hunt for
mutations disrupting the normal pattern of cell division and expansion in the

promoting elongation of the zygote and development of its basal daughter cell
into the suspensor.
A family of GATA-type transcription
factors
required for positioning the proembryo boundary, across which the embryonic
root is organized.
