Botanical Illustration Course

Prerequisites:
Basic biology/botany course(s) with lab.
Art/graphics course(s) helpful but not needed—this is not an art class.
Patience and enthusiasm! 


Description:
An opportunity to learn the basics of botanical illustration from a plant taxonomist who has over 30 years of professional illustration experience.
Emphasis on dissection and morphology of flowering plants in the context of producing scientifically accurate representations.
Hands-on laboratory exercises with live material.
Other goals: familiarity with terminology/descriptions and facility with interpreting illustrations in appropriate references.



Grade: Based on lab notebook, class assignments, and quizzes/final exam (on morphology)
