Botanical Illustration Course PBIO 4640/6640 [3 credits]

Prerequisites:

  • Basic biology/botany course(s) with lab.
  • Art/graphics course(s) helpful but not needed—this is not an art class.
  • Patience and enthusiasm!

  • Description:
  • An opportunity to learn the basics of botanical illustration from a plant taxonomist who has over 30 years of professional illustration experience.
  • Emphasis on dissection and morphology of flowering plants in the context of producing scientifically accurate representations.
  • Hands-on laboratory exercises with live material.
  • Other goals: familiarity with terminology/descriptions and facility with interpreting illustrations in appropriate references.
